#U240Cleveland: Celebrating U2’s 40th Anniversary

September 24-25, 2016

@U2 was proud to partner with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to present #U240Cleveland, a two-day event celebrating U2’s 40th anniversary. It took place September 24-25 with a variety of events both on-site at the Rock Hall, and off-site in downtown Cleveland.

Our special guest for the weekend was Irish radio legend Dave Fanning, who gave a young U2 the band’s very first radio airplay on RTE Radio 2 in 1979. Fanning took part in three Q&A sessions over the weekend, including our first @U2 podcast recording in front of a live audience. During Sunday’s final panel, Fanning interviewed Adam Clayton, who made a surprise appearance via Skype from the band’s hotel in Los Angeles.

In addition to Fanning’s appearance, @U2 and the Rock Hall hosted two panels discussing U2’s history of social activism and benefit concerts. Attendees were also treated to screenings of U2 3D, the band’s 2008 3D concert film from the Vertigo tour, and Classic Albums – U2: The Joshua Tree, a documentary about the making of that album featuring interviews with the band and production team.

Other special exhibits included Beth Nabi and Chris LeClere presenting material from the U2 Tattoo Project, and @U2’s Kelly Eddington presenting some of the U2 artwork she’s created for our Achtoon Baby series over the past 14 years. Rock Hall attendees also received a special commemorative laminate and had the chance to sign a giant anniversary card for U2. On Saturday night, @U2 hosted a special, rare screening of Rattle And Hum at Tower City Cinemas in downtown Cleveland.
