September 24, 2016
@U2 hosted #U240Dublin, our first event outside the U.S., on September 24, 2016 — a celebration of U2’s 40th anniversary in the band’s hometown of Dublin. When we first announced the event, tickets sold out in five days!
The party took place at The Grand Social and featured a special appearance from Ivan McCormick — one of the original group of boys who met in Larry Mullen Jr.’s kitchen on September 25, 1976. In addition to the live conversation with McCormick, the 300+ attendees enjoyed live music from Dublin’s own U2 tribute band, The Joshua Tree, and an opening set from Scottish band December, who are known in U2 fan circles for their U2 tribute song, “Alison Stewart.”
In addition to the party, @U2 arranged for longtime U2 fan and Dublin native Dave Griffith to offer walking tours of important U2-related sites in Dublin during the weekend.
