Haven’t they decided this f-ing thing yet?
It was five—yes, five—years ago that Bono exclaimed that winning a Golden Globe was “really f-ing brilliant!” Since then, the FCC has levied huge fines against networks for this instance and other similar cases of celebrity slip-ups, but because they did so in an inconsistent way (there was discussion of whether the “F” word was used as an adjective or a noun—I’m not making this up), the networks had their case ruling overturned in a NY court of appeals.
Now the FCC is back with their own appeal, to the United States’ highest court.
An article on CNN says: “Lawyers from both sides expect Tuesday’s oral arguments to be filled with the “indecent” language at issue, so expect to see a lot of f-bombs being tossed around by the justices, all in the name of legal clarity, of course.” Now that’s a case I wouldn’t mind sitting in on!
